Images That Suit Partners With GE To Help Survivors of Domestic Violence
How would you react if you found out that a woman you know has been, or is, a victim of domestic violence? Sadly, the reality is that this may be very likely. Statistics Canada, Residents of Canada’s shelters for abused women 2008, published in 2009 indicates that between April 1, 2007 and March 31, 2008 approximately 101,000 women and children were admitted to 569 various types of shelters in Canada. For these women and children finding the courage to escape an abusive relationship is only the first step in regaining a healthy life.
For the past four years, General Electric has been proud to help these families take the next step through its GE Day of Empowerment mid July; a full day of life skills workshops designed for survivors of domestic violence to help empower them to take back their lives. Last year the Day was able to make a difference in the lives of 110 participants from over 8 shelters in the GTA.
This year Images That Suit partners with GE to bring gently used business attire to the participants. We are reaching out to our clients, suppliers and friends to donate suits, jackets, skirts, tops and pants to this Day of Empowerment as Images That Suit volunteers to man the dressing rooms and assist women in putting together pieces that are appropriate to wear for interviews.
We are accepting donations now so please bring in yours to either the Toronto or Mississauga Images That Suit location.
